Sri Lanka Janasetha Sahana Foundation (JSSF) was founded on 1st January 1990 by Shantha Wimalasiri Gunewardena  (Justice of Peace) , its President and Managing Director. JSSF is a non-government, non-profit making, and non-political welfare organization. It is registered under the Government Registrar of Companies (Registered No. NA 329) and is also under the Department of Social Services (Registered No. G/15/91). JSSF is managed by a Board of Directors consisting of 6 Directors.The President and Managing Director is also the Chief Executive. All accounts of the Foundation are audited annually by an approved firm of Auditors and submitted to the Board of Directors for approval. JSSF has 18 years experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating of programmes and advocacy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Gamidiriya Project and Gama Neguma - village awakening and strengthening for poverty alleviation

JSSF is a partner organization of Gamidiriya Project – which is a World Bank funded project which covers Badulla, Moneragala, Hambantota, Matara and Galle districts. US$51 million has been allocated for the first phase. Based on the achievement of targets, this project will be implemented over 12 years.

This is totally a community based development approach which aims to empower, strengthen and formally organise people. The unique feature of the project is, decision making power has been transferred to the beneficiaries themselves. All activities of this project is discussed, organized using knowledge and ideas at village level. The main objectives of this project are, to help poor families to initiate self-employment schemes, infrastructure development, and providing employment and skills development .

JSSF has been working as a support organization in the Participatory Rural Appraisal in rural development planning and social mobilization. These projects are being conducted by JSSF in remote districts of Hambantota covering 110 remote villages and 14 villages in Moneragala.

The special feature of this project is 20% of labour costs and 10% of funding is provided by beneficiaries themselves.

JSSF took leadership in establishing peoples companies in villages covering 6 districts of Sri Lanka . Project implementation, financial management, decision making on future projects have been successfully transferred to these companies, which are operating very successfully to date.
