Pre-School Projects

Children are our future. The Janasetha Sahana Padanama Foundation is dedicated to the service of the children who are from very poor families. Though education from Primary to Tertiary is free in this country, the government has not involved itself in the pre-school education. Generally Pre school education is managed by the private institutions and it is beyond the reach of the poor. Therefore free nursery-school education remains a prime need in this country.

Most schools are housed in huts and often the roofs are made of cadjan ( or coconut leaves) or straw. Often the floors are of raw earth. Hardly any toilet facilities are available to them. Clean running water at the turn of a tap is unheard of in most of the villages in the island.

Most villagers are very poor and they do not have the means to give a nursery-school education to their children. To meet this need we organize educational centers for nursery-school children, sometimes called "nurseries" we proved the children with the basic needs such as books, stationery, and other essential equipment to meet their basic requirements.

In Sri Lanka , all school children wear uniforms to school. However, in many of the poorer villages, the parents are unable to provide uniforms for their children. The children go to school in whatever clothes they have and are unable to dress as the other children.  There are many children in rural areas that are malnourished because of the poverty.

Every year, the nursery-school teachers are brought into our organization for one week of training. They are given refresher courses and taught the latest methods of teaching. We also hold seminars and workshops annually for their benefit.

We train pre-school teachers and help establish pre-schools in remote areas. Small grants and school equipment are provided to educate and dedicate young people to establish their own pre-schools and the support is continued until they became independent.
